This sculpture belongs to Arturo Luzʼs Homage series, a body of abstract works that pay tribute to artists who have influenced his creative thinking. Among them are Fernando Zóbel, Eduardo Chillida, Isamu Noguchi, and in this piece, the Spanish modernist Antoni Tàpies.
In a series of Homage to Antoni Tapies works, Luz translates his admiration into a linear, geometric language that distills form to its essentials. The deliberate form of this composition exemplifies Luzʼs enduring pursuit of visual harmony and material refinement.
Arturo Luz (1926–2021) was a key figure in Philippine modernism and a pioneer of the Neo-Realist movement alongside Fernando Zóbel. He was named National Artist for Visual Arts in 1997, the highest recognition in the Philippines for artistic achievement
