Pacita Abad (1946-2004) was known for her trapunto paintings. Trapunto, derived from the Italian word trapungere which means to quilt, refers to her large-scale canvases that were subsequently stuffed, painted on, and sewn with various sequins, mirrors, fabrics, and buttons to form three-dimensional works. To Paint and Wait for You is a geometric abstract trapunto painting done in rich jewel tones. It is decorated with organic patterns such as flowers, leaves, and stylized human figures reminiscent of folk art. The addition of sequins, buttons, and mirrors also provide texture to the trapunto. Abadʼs artworks were inspired by the cultures she encountered during her travels across six continents. She also incorporated Philippine themes and indigenous motifs in her works
