Arturo Luz (1926–2021) began exploring the anito (spirit) theme in the 1970s, drawing inspiration from the sensibility of American-Japanese sculptor Isamu Noguchi. This period helped shape Luzʼs sculptural idiom, marked by a constructivist approach. As Cid Reyes observed, “the planar volume of his works depends on the accretion of separate segments.ˮ Guided by principles of simplicity and purity of form, Luz developed a distinct sculptural language. This particular work reflects his exploration of pre-Hispanic and indigenous influences, expressed through interlocking geometric forms. While this piece is fashioned from mild steel plate, Luz also worked with wood, bronze, brass, forged iron, and silver in his sculptural practice
